This Final Master Project is conducted at EPHI and explores the problems with package deliverer working conditions in last-mile delivery, specifically for PostNL. It addresses inefficient vehicle (un)loading and non-ergonomic lifting through an in-vehicle pouch sorter that automatically loads, sorts, and unloads packages, minimizing manual package handling and saving 2+ hours of physical strain per day.

This system is developed through two phases in a double-diamond process, emphasizing prototyping and evaluation. Phase 1 develops a non-functional proof-of-concept prototype, with which usability and desirability are confirmed by package deliverers through Wizard-of-Oz testing. With a lack of engineer involvement, the second phase pivots to developing functional subsystems and conceptual 3D renders. With this, the project is presented to PostNL, and feasibility and viability are evaluated. Although risks in development, implementation, safety, and robustness remain, EPHI and PostNL show tangible interest in further developing the concept.
